Introduction to RSS Feeds

RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication, and it is a method for easily sharing website content and updates. RSS is great way to keep up with all your favourite websites without having to visit each one regularly.

You can easily recognise an RSS feed on any website by the symbol. Generally speaking, clicking on this symbol will take you directly to the RSS feed.

An RSS feed can be viewed on its own (in Internet Explorer for example) or through an RSS Reader (sometimes known as a newsreader). RSS Readers allow you to collate many different RSS feeds so you can view them all in one place, and it will regularly check the feeds you subscribe to, to bring you anything new.

There are lots of different readers available to download, or that can be used via the internet. The Google Directory List of Newsreaders is a great source for further information.

iGoogle (your personalisable Google homepage), myMSN or My Yahoo! can be used an RSS Reader, and wherever you see these icons you will be able to click it to add the RSS feed directly to them.
